This 720 Semester Credit Hour program requires 36 weeks of training (day, afternoon or evening), and is designed for those students who desire knowledge and skills in both administrative front office and clinical back office. The program includes 160 hours externship in a medical facility in order to meet the requirements for testing as a Nationally Certified Medical Assistant. Students will also develop proficiency skills in Microsoft Word.
The program is designed to provide students with extensive and comprehensive training in body structure and the functions of the various body systems. Students will develop a working knowledge of specimen collection and various laboratory procedures to include infection control, venipuncture, EKG, injections, and sterilization. Students will also learn proper techniques in assisting in minor surgical procedures and preparation of patients for diagnostic tests. Students will also be certified in CPR. Students will develop administrative skills such as patient scheduling, obtaining and maintaining patient data, medical office bookkeeping, insurance billing, and automated office information management, including Typing, Computerized Billing and Microsoft Word.
Graduates will be qualified for entry level positions in the medical field such as: Medical Assistant, front office and/or back office, Insurance Biller, Phlebotomist, EKG Technician, Medical Office Manager, etc.
